A Short History of Music in the Church, Part 1

From Synagogue to Early Church

Recently, I had the opportunity of teaching a short Sunday School series here at Cornerstone Presbyterian. The topic was a short history of music in the Church. The goal was to give an overview of how music has historically been used in the Church but more importantly to lay a foundation for understanding a more historic, and biblical, understanding of what music is, what its purpose is, and how music trains our affections in the good, true, and beautiful.

Jonathan Edwards in Religious Affections:The affections are no other than the more vigorous and sensible exercises of the inclination and will of the soul.
